I’ve been mulling over the idea of registering a RFC 1480-style locality domain under .us for a long, long while (think 20 years or more). However, it’s been pretty borked for over a good portion of that time. There’s a reasonable guide to obtaining a locality domain that was updated last year that relies heavily on archived websites (well, text files on HTTP servers) for critical resources.

It’s honestly a bit disappointing; if this process were smoother, I’d argue it was a good prospect for a process of commoning aligned with the Indieweb ethos, but instead, it’s experiencing a bunch of obsolescence and subject to organizational failures and privatization. Entirely disappointing, but fundamentally unsurprising.

Really enjoying leaning into writing with Ulysses - it’s kind of a dream come true from the standpoint of working with Hugo. It’s nice on desktop/iPad, but wish the Working Copy integration on iOS were slightly smoother.

Because my Sourcery post was so controversial^W popular I had to adjust the Webmention configuration to show more replies. Nice problem to have, I guess?

eking out the last bits of performance by adding pagination to notes and posts list pages

I migrated my site from Jekyll to Hugo. Indieweb-ifying Go templates is a heck of a lot easier than the pain of using Liquid. I also moved all of my old comments from Disqus to a static blob of JSON, using a forked version of Paul Hammant’s escape_from_disqus. How I handle new comments (non-Webmention or otherwise) is to come, but Tom Doe’s approach using Netlify Forms seems pretty neat.
